ABOUT THE FARM:
This special limited release lot comes to us from the Women Coffee Extension (WCE) at the Mbizi Coffee Washing Station. Established in 2017 by Aline Christine and Odette Uwamariya, the WCE stands as a cooperative dedicated to empowering female specialty coffee producers, aiming to amplify their influence in Rwanda's coffee production. Today, the WCE boasts a membership of over 700 female coffee producers.
At the core of the WCE's mission is the education and empowerment of its members. Their diverse services encompass family planning, nutrition programs, and agricultural practices. These impactful initiatives have transformed the lives of many members, leading to a substantial increase in coffee production from 3 kgs to 4 kgs per tree. The Mbizi Coffee Washing Station has experienced a noteworthy growth, doubling its output from 3 containers to 6 containers of green coffee.
Looking ahead, the WCE envisions further expansion of programs for the betterment of its members. Currently pursuing Rain Forest certification to enhance their coffee's premium, the WCE has future plans to provide cows to all members, extend health insurance coverage to the majority, and establish a sewing center for young individuals. The WCE remains committed to fostering positive and sustainable changes in the lives of its members and the broader community.
