From First Conversation to Opening Day: 1122 Coffee Co. Opens in Downtown Concord

On Saturday, September 5, the doors opened at 1122 Coffee Co. in downtown Concord. With a DJ blasting music outside, a line down the sidewalk, people walking out with drinks in hand, two sisters got to watch their dreams come to life. 

The turnout of people showing up Saturday morning was an amazing experience, and we're happy for 1122 Coffee Co. in their new chapter. 

VAROSH Coffee Roasters is proud to be the coffee roaster and equipment partner behind 1122 Coffee Co. From one of the earliest conversations about what this shop could be, through selecting the beans, sourcing and installing the equipment, and getting the bar ready to serve, our team has had the privilege of working alongside owners Karlee and Kayla.

Who is 1122 Coffee Company?

1122 Coffee Co. is a cozy neighborhood coffee shop in downtown Concord, North Carolina. 1122 Coffee Co. is owned by sisters Karlee McBride-Webber and Kayla McBride, an WBNA All-Star guard for the Minnesota Lynx. The name comes from the address of the house they grew up in back in Erie, Pennsylvania

The owners wanted the feeling of bringing the living room to the neighborhood. So when it came time to build their own coffee shop, they built the room they'd been looking for.

The space at 25 Barbrick Ave SW has a great atmosphere with lounge seating, warm lights, and 90's memorabilia. It's the kind of place where you can drop by quickly to grab a signature drink, or spend moments connecting with your friends and family.

How it started: One conversation with 1122 Coffee Co.

Every wholesale partnership we've ever built started the same way: with a conversation. A conversation about what someone is trying to build. When 1122 Coffee Co. found VAROSH Coffee Roasters, we were there to listen and guide them through the process, leading to their coffee shop's grand opening.

Through the conversation, we got to know more about their business, but enjoyed getting to know the people themselves on a personal level. Together, we would work together to bring a unique coffee experience to the community.

The coffee

VAROSH Coffee roasts in small batches. Working with a local roaster allowed 1122 Coffee Co. supply coffee built around the shop. We provided tastings of our coffee beans, to showcase the freshness and quality of VAROSH coffee beans. 

For 1122, we worked through options to build a menu that is welcoming and consistent for their customers, feeling connected to the coffee shop within the community. 

The equipment

Beans are only half of it. A coffee shop lives or dies on the machinery behind the counter, and the wrong espresso machine in the wrong space can be problematic.

VAROSH sources, sells, and installs the full bar including the espresso machines, grinders, and brewers that make the shift work. We recommended a La Marzocco espresso machine that a top-tier product for a coffee shop. Then we stay: preventative maintenance and scheduled tune-ups, plus fast repair response when something goes sideways.

Karlee and her husband, Jimmy visited VAROSH Coffee Roasters, and happy to receive the La Marzocco to set-up their coffee operations. 

 

Training the Team

Great coffee is only as good as the person making it. Barista training is part of every wholesale relationship we take on. We train each barista on how to get the perfect cup each time, aimed at consistency, speed and confidence at the bar. We offered education our coffee beans, equipment, and insights that help them keep the coffee at its best.

An Inside Look at 1122 Coffee Co in Concord, NC (Grand Opening Day and More)

VAROSH Coffee Roasters is making our way to the grand opening of 1122 Coffee Co. to support our friends. We took a lovely stroll through downtown Concord, which has local businesses around every corner. A great walk through this community. 

 

Upon reaching 1122 Coffee Co., lines were down the street. The music was blasting. People were lined up to try the coffee shop. Wow, an impressive grand opening. Thanks for those who supported 1122 Coffee Co. on their special day. 

 

We've made it to the front of the store. People have been lining up since 9 a.m. to try the new coffee shop. From what we've heard their signature 1122 Latte (Blueberry Vanilla) and Matcha were some of the customer preferences. 

 

Co-Owner Kayla McBride took time away from the court to be at the 1122 Grand Opening. The public were able to get photo-ops and autographs with the WBNA star. Kayla McBride is a guard for the Minnesota Lynx for the 2026 season.

 

Finally, we were able to meet Kayla McBride. Enjoyed our conversation with her, and she is appreciative of how much we supported her sister, Karlee, leading up to the opening day.
